Why Attend?

Who is this conference for?

  • Supervision, mentoring, and Coaching practitioners who recognise the importance of evidence-based practice and its impact on clients.

  • Researchers in mentoring, coaching, and related disciplines, who want to make an impact in practice by sharing their findings with practitioners in a meaningful and practical way.

Research has a life cycle from beginning to middle to end.  There are different ways to engage with research from reading about research to participation in research and leadership of research. Many researchers are practitioners first and only later find their way into research.  Practitioners and researchers are curiosity driven and all need to base their practice on solid evidence. No one size fits all, so come along to find out how EMCC Global resources can help and explore how you can benefit from research engagement as part of continuing professional development.

Why do we need to close the gap between research and practice?

Practitioners often are the first to identify needs or trends to better support clients while researchers benefit from producing impactful research that supports such innovation.  Meanwhile researchers have created a wealth of relevant research for practitioners to help respond to change: from societal topics, such as equity and inclusion, to neuroscience and psychological models that support behavioural change. Yet, translating outcomes into actionable steps in practice is not always easy. Engaging in dialogue and exchanging ideas, knowledge and practitioner experience are the ingredients for growth and innovation. That is why this continuing dialogue - and your voice in it – matters.

But I’m not a researcher and don’t speak the “research lingo”, what would I have to say?

If this statement resonates with you, then you are not alone. Indeed, some volunteers of the EMCC Global Research Development Group are practitioners first and only later found their way to research because they see a need for a solid evidence base for their practice. Doing research, yourself is not a pre-requisite to contributing to the development of an evidence base that helps further our profession. Engaging in dialogue and exchanging ideas, knowledge and practitioner experience are essential to:

  • Co-create an agenda for collaborative research to address complex challenges

  • Take practical steps for shared capital that benefits ourselves, our clients and our community

  • Challenge the false dichotomy between practice and research

What if I’d rather listen?

Listening is a core competence in our profession, especially active listening. You are welcome to apply your active listening skills to the dialogue and ask practitioners and researchers your powerful questions. In this conference, we also offer Drop-in Sessions where you can ask (almost) anything and members of the EMCC Global team will aim to answer your questions.

Will there be CPD certification?

Participation in research in different ways is recognised by EMCC Global as Continuing Professional Development. There will be a reflective question at the end of each session for you to complete to gain a CPD certificate for participation in the conference. There will be an opportunities to find out more about how engaging with research can strengthen your continuing professional development.

How can I share my research?

You might be a researcher, post graduate student or researching practitioner, it makes no difference, use these opportunities to share your research with others.
